What C15 means to me

I have asked myself what does Chapter 15 mean to me?

Well, Chapter 15 provides a place where I can shower and get my laundry cleaned.  This service is completely free of charge and as a homeless person gave me some of my dignity back.  There is no other service like this locally and its so nice to enjoy a steaming hot shower.

The kitchen provides light snacks like cheese toasties and a hot cuppa and it's a social welcoming safe place to sit and get warm.  With friendly advice for the homeless and vulnerable in the area I am in a lot better place now with the help and advice I have received in part from the volunteers at Chapter 15 and fingers crossed will get housed this year.

Above everything Chapter 15 has given me hope!

What Chapter 15 means to me

I first came to Chapter 15 at the end of 2021.  I was homeless and living in a tent at the time.  I was made aware of the facilities that are available such as a hot shower, washing machine and dryer facility, hot food (cheese toasties and pot noodles) and limitless tea and coffee also other small things like the ability to have a hair cut using their hair clippers.

But I will always remember my first da.  I was welcomed with open arms and smiles from all the volunteers and no judgement on my circumstances.  I was provided with some extra clothing, coat, gloves and underwear.  And through that I gained back some dignity and pride in myself.

I then left Norfolk for around 2 years but on my return I was still homeless but living in a camper van. I knew where to go straight away because I was struggling with getting my dignity and pride back and my mental health had declined  dramatically. I was welcomed again with open arms and smiles from the very same volunteers.

Chapter 15 has done so much for me.  It’s my safe place where I can come and relax and learn from people with similar circumstances as well as those who have been through homelessness. I have gained new friends which with my mental health I find hard to do.

I like to help out during sessions as a way of giving back and when my circumstances fully change for the better I would love to become a member of the team.

It’s an amazing charity with amazing facilities.  Even more so the people who give up there spare time to help out, they are the back bone of Chapter 15.  Norfolk needs more places like this that are available to homeless or anyone who is struggling or even anyone that just want to come have a hot drink and a chat.  A safe place with no judgment, no pressure a place and where you can start to get yourself on the right path if you’ve gotten lost.
